Woodhall Spa Treasure Trail

It was our first day out this month on Sunday after various illnesses and so we were very much looking forward to it and it didn’t disappoint! The destination was Woodhall Spa and we did something we’ve not done before – a treasure trail. The idea is you find the clues to solve a mystery while walking around a specific area. I’ve never seen these before but they have them all over the country. The one for Woodhall Spa was spy themed and our 7 year old especially, was excited about it. It helpfully had suggestions of where to park near the starting point in the town and then we went for lunch before clue 1! We went to the Inn at Woodhall Spa and had a lovely meal there with big portions! We sat in the lounge bar and the kids really enjoyed a game of pool while we waited for our food. We ate here in the summer too and had a very good visit then too – highly recommended!

Searching for clues!

After that it was time to get started! We had trouble finding the first clue but went onto the second one and found the first one right at the end since it took you in a circular route. This was ideal – it took us from the town, through the wood, to Jubilee Park and back to the town and our car. The clues were spaced out nicely. We got to read some of the history about the village as we went passed them and while looking for clues on them. We enjoyed going through the woods and it was fun to see the ‘Kinema in the Woods’ an old cinema, which we will hopefully attend one day. We also popped into the Tea House in the Woods for the children to use the toilet and got a take away tea. They were doing a roaring trade here and we spotted some delicious looking afternoon teas being served (another one for the ‘to do’ list!).

The clues continued at Jubilee Park and while we were there the kids had a great time in the park although we were all getting very cold by this point! As well as the park, there is an outdoor swimming pool open in the summer (we visited last summer and it was really good fun), as well as an ice cream shop and public toilets. A few clues then led us back into the town. The trail felt just the right length and it was nice to have the variety of the town, the woods, and the playground. Of course you could enjoy Woodhall Spa without the trail but if definitely gave an extra element of fun to the day. The trail cost £9.99 and as you can see on the website they have them all over! We will definitely do other ones. It was ideal to do with kids as there were various places for toilet/drink/snack stops in the town, you could stop at the tea in the woods, and Jubilee Park have toilets open Easter to October. It was also a suitable route for the pram. It took us 2.5 hours including time at the park and our stop in the woods. A great day out.
