This weekend we had a day trip to York. It had been a while since we’d been there and I’d forgotten what a lovely place it is! We started with a play in Museum Gardens which was really nice to have a walk around and let the kids have a run around after the car journey.

We then went for lunch at the Pizza Express across the road and used Tesco vouchers to pay for most of the meal. It was all good. After this we had a 10 minute walk down to the National Railway Museum which was free to get in. We just had to book online to say what time we’d arrive beforehand. Although we have been before I think it had been improved since we last went and I was quite impressed with it.

There was a lot to look around and there is also a small play area indoors, as well as some Thomas the Tank Engine small rides and a simulator. Outside there is a play area and there was also a train ride running for £3 per person. We didn’t go on but you can watch from the playground and our toddler loved this! One of the highlights was a model working railway. Our toddler was beyond excited and watched for ages.

We were there for about an hour and a half and we felt we could definitely have stayed longer but our time on the car park in town ran out. There was also a café there and a couple of gift shops. Although our older two are not particularly into trains they still enjoyed it.
