The Deep, Hull

If you live in Lincolnshire it will depend where you live as to whether it’s worth a day trip over the Humber Bridge to Hull. The Deep is a must see in Hull, it is quite special being the worlds only submarium. I really like it, I think there is a lot to see here. When you buy your tickets, you can use them to get in for free as many times as you like for a year so this is great value. I used Tesco vouchers for me and the two older ones (toddler free) in half term so even better! Otherwise the cost would have been £45.75 for the three of us. Parking cost £3.

In total we spent about two and a half hours in here. There’s a café about half way around and also an area you can eat your own food in, which is what we did, although we did buy ice creams and a coffee from here. I took the pram in and there were lifts to move between the floors. My toddler wanted to walk after lunch and although we went with a friend and her children, it was quite a lot to cope with the pram, my toddler and the other two as it was pretty busy! They all had a great time though seeing the different creatures. The highlights were the sharks, penguins, jellyfish and manta rays.

Jellyfish

There used to be a bit of a play area towards the end but this wasn’t there this time. This would have actually been perfect timing for my toddler and would have given me a minute for a rest! There’s a tunnel you walk through in which the fish are swimming over your head which is amazing and the final part of the attraction is the option to go up a lift in which you can see the fish through the glass also. At the end there is a giftshop which sells a lot of ocean related toys etc. My daughter couldn’t resist another soft toy! I think this is a really good trip out and can be educational. I would have enjoyed having more time to read the information but as often is the case, there wasn’t time while keeping an eye on the children. My 10 year old enjoyed reading the information though and learning new things. I’m sure we’ll be back again before our year ticket expires.
