I hadn’t heard of this place before but a friend invited us along during the week with her little one. What a find! It has a car park (free) which we had no problem parking in but I wonder if it gets full on the weekend as it is fairly small. I took the pushchair from here which was just about doable although there was some uneven ground to navigate so you might prefer not to. There are lots of beautiful rhododendrons here in various colours, it was lovely. I believe the end of spring is the best time to see them.

We came to a gorgeous spot, a lake, and were lucky to see some moorhen chicks with their parents which were very cute. The children absolutely loved a paddle on the edge of the water. Remember to take a towel if you might do this. My little one needed a full change of clothes after this! We had perfect weather for it. There were quite a few little flies about so insect repellent might be a good idea too.

After the paddling we finished the circular walk back to the car park. The area seems a favourite with dog owners. It was a really pleasant walk. We noticed one bench on the walk and we didn’t find anywhere very suitable to sit and eat lunch so we ended up eating back at the car park. We were there for two and a half hours altogether and it’s worth bearing in mind there’s no toilet or shop so you need to take drinks and snacks. Such a great place for a free trip out!
