Lincoln, The Collection Museum

It was great to have a day out in Lincoln. It was pretty busy as there was a Steampunk Festival going on. It was interesting to look at the costumes as we walked about the town. As it was lunch time we went straight to Pizza Express for our lunch which we paid for using Tesco vouchers (we only needed to pay for drinks). The meal was really good, such a great place to go for a family meal. We all enjoyed it, even our toddler got stuck in to a three course meal! I had a spicy sausage pasta meal and everyone else had pizza. The highlight was this delicious mini dessert of a Lotus Biscoff cheesecake which came with a hot drink.

Following this we had a couple of shops to briefly visit and then we went to The Collection Museum for the first time. We planned to come here especially to visit a digital worlds exhibition which was on. We paid £12 for all of us and the rest of the museum was free. We weren’t sure what to expect but the digital pictures were interactive. Some created art from your silhouette in front of the screen. Others you could add your image to, or choose to create patterns using a QR code, or create patterns using your initial for example on your phone which then appeared on the screen. This was a new experience! The exhibition is on until 2nd October 2022.

After this we visited the rest of the museum which showcases art and archaeology in Lincolnshire. The children enjoyed looking around this, there were quite a few things they could touch and hold such as helmets and shields. I would have enjoyed some time to read the information but with a toddler on the loose this wasn’t really possible! It’s great that this part of the museum is free and I’m sure we would come again for another look. We noticed on our way out that they had a kind of play room for young children too. If we had spotted this on the way in we may have taken it in turns to have a bit of time looking around with the older two.

As well as exhibitions they also have author talks, yoga classes, and art classes here. We went home after this but enjoyed being in Lincoln and I’m sure there is lots more to explore on other visits!
