Bewilderwood, Norfolk

I’ve been wanting to take the kids to Bewilderwood for years after seeing it on one of those ‘best places to take your kids before they are 18’ type lists like this one. It’s also been recommended by family and friends. Since we’ve never lived near either the Chester or Norfolk Bewilderwood it hasn’t happened until we were on holiday nearby. We went to the Norfolk one. It cost £105 for the five of us. We were hoping our youngest might just get in free (under £92cm) but he was just tall enough to be an ‘almost wild’ at £19.50.

We started with the boat trip across the river. The queue took quite a long time. Even though we’d been given the tip by a friend to do this later in the day we followed the crowd to do this first. If we went again we’d do this later when it is less busy either during the middle of the day or on the way back to the carpark. The boat trip was really sweet with the person driving the boat telling stories about the ‘twiggles’ and ‘boggles’ and there are various things to see.

We went to get a drink at the Cosy Cabin and then sat outside at the ‘Storytelling at the Stage’ area to watch some storytelling while we drank. We then headed to the queue for the free face painting which was fun and our younger two went for. They keep it simple and quick by only have one design available (with a choice of colours) which the kids were happy with. Next was the Sky Maze which the whole family enjoyed. It took us a while and was quite tricky!

We ate lunch here which was fine but I think if we came again we’d bring a picnic to save money. We weren’t sure if we’d easily be able to get back to the car park to get our picnic but actually we could have done. I had a sandwich, our youngest had a lunchbox and the other three had hotdogs. We spent around £40 on food and drinks during the day. Next up was the slides for my husband and older kids while the little one and I headed to Toddlewood on the Hill, the toddler area. He enjoyed this and when we went to find the others they were having a wonderful time on the ‘Slippery Slopes’ and our youngest wanted a go. He looked pretty terrified and then insisted on another go!

The big two and I then had a great time on the ‘Wobbly Wires’ (zip wires) while my husband took our youngest on the ‘Twiggle Whizzers’ (zip wires for little ones). We all loved this and all the kids enjoyed various swings which were a bit different to your usual playground swings. We finished with a play around the Towering Treetop Tangles for my husband and older two (our youngest was flagging a bit by this point) before heading back to the car. We managed to explore most areas, possibly missing a few such as the den building, craft area, and gift shop.

We absolutely loved it here and would recommend a visit. It was a great place for children of a range of ages.
