Stokeld Park, Wetherby

I’d seen Stokeld Park‘s indoor play area on someone’s Instagram account and thought it looked such good fun! We decided to try it while it is cheaper in the winter. We paid £57.50 for a family of five in January. There were two price options, we went for the cheaper one which involved a 1.5 hour timed slot for ‘the hive’, the indoor play area, whereas we could have paid more for an unlimited time in here throughout the day. We did wonder if we’d regret this as it was forecast to rain but we got away with it. The first thing we did was headed to the maze which was great fun and had lots of bits and bobs to look at like funny signs, police boxes etc and a globe in the middle with facts which played if you press the buttons. We split up into two teams and had a competition – the girls won!

We then headed to get some lunch. I had wanted to take our lunch with us but it didn’t look like you could eat it inside from the website and since it was a cold day I thought we’d better buy our food there. We bought sandwiches, yoghurts, drinks etc which was nice but got through quite a bit of money on top of the cost of getting in and noticed an area indoors where I think we could have eaten our own food if we’d taken it. After this we went to the outside play area near the hive which the kids enjoyed for a while and then it was time to head to the hive for our timed slot.

Wow we loved the hive! This was really different and just such fun. We imagined we’d grab a coffee and sit and watch them play but no, that is not the idea here. Although there are a few places you can have a little rest, there isn’t any proper seating, the idea is definitely to join in with the kids. Smaller ones likely need help anyway, but even my husband and I were having fun on the slides! A fun place and worth a visit. We made the most of the 1.5 hour slot.

We then went into the ‘enchanted forest’. A storm was brewing at this point and it was very atmospheric! Our youngest was a bit scared and worried at first and wasn’t too sure. There was lots to look at as you walked around and also various individual playgrounds with different themes. We didn’t stop at them due to the weather but if you came on a warmer day you really could make a full day of it here. They had ice-skating on when we got back to near the hive. You had to pay extra for this. We gave it a miss this time.

We had another go at the maze before we headed home. I thought this was a great place. If we lived closer I think we’d go once a year or so. I’d probably recommend going when it’s a bit warmer (we went in January) but then I think it would cost more then, as the price varies through the year.
